An Encounter!!!

The meeting with this person would always be remembered as an encounter than as a casual chat, cause the hero of this post happens to be a Policeman!! Not any ordinary policeman, A Traffic Policeman!!!

I dont remember the exact day or date but i remember the blazing sun...so it had to be noon time..i was getting back home from extra classes of Maths i guess and was waiting to cross the road....the place is always crowded and very few people notice that there is a traffic signal in the middle of the road...and even if they notice they hardly seem to know the use of it.But i happen to be a person who always used to follow those signals as i was (is)under the impression that they impove the chances of my survival while crossing!

I always had respect for the traffic policeman standing there for he seemed to be the only person who cared about the road, traffic, signals and pedestrians.so in this particular day i was standing next to the policeman for crossing the road.he gave me a smile and asked me whether i was having xams and i told him "no uncle extra classes"

the following is the conversation we had
"molee ippo ethu classila"(which class are u studying)
"12th ila uncle"(i dont need to transalate that)
"molee appol entrance ezhuthum alle"(u will be writing the entrance right)
"alla uncle nyan commerce aa"
"oho"he thinks and then he says "entrance eyuthandirrikaruthu!"(u shud write entrance)
i culdnt hide my smile and then i tell him
"alla uncle commerce aanengil entrance ezhuthan pattilla"(i cant write entrance cause i m in commerce)
to my utter shock he says "alla mole ennalum entrance ezhuthanum!"(watever it is u should write entrance)
thankfully the signal changed i just smiled and crossed the road...

at that point of time i felt sorry for the police uncle.i couldnt blame him for his ignorance cause thats the way things are in kerala and many parts of our country.writing the engineering or medical entrance has become something like a ritual and duty for the sons and daughters of kerala.the whole concept makes me feel sick.
that was just an ordinary person on the road,it feels worse when people including your own teachers think tht taking up a subject other than science is a risky thing to do.some people feel sorry for u.some people pity u.

i really dont care for these "some people" but it really gets into ur nerves when friends u know..who could hav been great artists and writers write the entrance get their ranks in tens and twenty thousands(yeah their rank) pay for a seat in a college and end up getting a job in some random company!and there goes their dreams and creativity!some blame their parents, some blame the system!
i can only pity them!

high time people understood its equally important to churn out artists, singers, writers!!u churn out an IT professional every other minute, but it mite take a decade or so to churn out a gud artist. may be this is a cliche topic discussed everywhere around....but this is one topic i always wanted to give an opinion about!!

god bless that man who really cared for my future, which he thought, wuld be bright only and only if i write the entrance and i hope his sons and daughters wrote the entrance which to his dismay i dint!

I completely agree with you. Entrance mania., the correct bubbles in OMR sheets seem to be your gateway for a successful life, career etc, There re so many wonderful options around but we tend to ignore them. most of us prefer to join the crowd and at times end up with success but 0 satisfaction. even i was faced wth a similar situation when i decided 2 shift to humanities and people around went to the extent of saying i m screwing up my life. But just coz we made a diff choice doesn t mean we made the wrong choice!

It happens all the time "People who really don't know anything about the dangers involved in taking up an Engg or Medical course churn out advices as if its the share price ticker"

Trust me when i say that you are one lucky gal to have escaped this entrance debacle!

hmm .. well madam hope I am eligible to comment (considering the fact that I did write the ill fated entrance and did fare pretty well at that)

Engg and Medicine seem to guarantee the parents that their ward will get atleast 'something' in life. They dont think that other professions might be more suited to their kinds and maybe even more profitable in the long run!

Dont blame the policeman, he never wrote entrance. All that he knows about entrance is - Its a gateway to 'success'.

Thank god that he did not ask you to be a 'traffic policeman' *grin*

Ps: thanks for the compliment on the blogs. keep visiting coz I will keep coming back for more!
